Hello all,

I'm letting everyone out there know that I have started a brand new training class offered at the Idaho Athletic Club. Kettlebell training is a method of combining absolute strength with endurance and raising your body into an aerobic zone all at one time. What does this mean? Lean body mass gain, fat mass reduction, and cardiovascular endurance. Kettlebell training will transform your body into whatever your goal is. If you want to gain muscle, you will. If you want to loose fat, you will. There is simply nothing out there like this. Not 1-on-1 training, not crossfit, not a single aerobic class. NOTHING!! If you are ready to invest in making your body the most efficient it can be, join me and become part of an elite team all striving for a common goal: to make yourself the best you can be on a fitness level!

Classes have already begun, so call the Black Eagle location to contact me about joining.

Roxy,

Great question. What you are referring to is the American Swing, which extends overhead and is frequently seen in CrossFit.

The most common swing is the Russian Swing, which only extends to chest or chin height.

I'm not really sure why the American Swing got so popular. I think someone at CrossFit decided that the user would generate more power by propelling the KB higher. Since CrossFit is concerned with the amount of work performed in a given time, the person would do more work if they drove the KB higher.

It is a nice thought, but usually what it turns into is the person "lifting" the KB with their arms, and not driving it with the hips, as they should.

Personally, I'm not a big fan of the American Swing. The Russian Swing is difficult enough to do correctly, and the basis of most other KB lifts. In my opinion, if you are going to swing the KB overhead, you might was well be snatching it.

Myself, I stick with the Russian Swing. If I get bored and want to try something else, there are 100 variations, like the swing and release, DARC swing, swing, release with chest taps or other drills.

Check out my website at www.idahokettlebells.com or www.tacticalathlete.com for more information.

Do you have to be a member of the Black Eagle gym to join in? I'm a member of the Nampa gym.
